How Restaurant Online Payments Work for the Food Client

With the online payment system, the concept of up-front payment phased out. Using pre-authorization payment, both restaurant and client's interests are optimally fulfilled and re-ordering behavior gets stronger and stronger after each ordering experience.

All the steps below are very rapidly rolled out, but here is what goes on step-by-step and how restaurant online payments happen with the system:

1. The food client comes to order online and they select the option to pay online (online payment can also be the ONLY option if that’s how the restaurant sets it).

2. The food client inserts the card details and places the order.

3. If the order was placed as ASAP (order for NOW):

The amount is authorized the moment the food client places the order and the system sends the order to the restaurant app for acceptance (maximum 3 min to answer)

  • If the order is missed => the system tells the gateway to abort the transaction within 2 hours => the food client’s card was never charged

  • If the order is rejected => the system tells the gateway to abort the transaction within 2 hours => the food client’s card was never charged

  • If the order is accepted by the restaurant => the system keeps the hold on the authorization and it initiates capture with delay operation => transfer set to happen within 11-12 hours from the fulfillment of the order

  • If (for any reason) the food client is not happy with the order, the restaurant may decide to refund the client and they can easily trigger this from their merchant account interface with no chargebacks fees to pay (void operation) => the food client was never charged

4. If the order was placed as an order for LATER:

The system captures the money the moment the food client places the order.

  • If the order was accepted, the system takes no further action

  • If the order was missed, rejected, or canceled (before being pushed to the order taking app), the system initiates a refund within 2 hours after it was rejected, missed, or canceled.

Important: The credit card details are handled according to PCI compliance by the payment gateway and will not be visible or disclosed in any manner. Not even the system has access to payment details, nor “touches” the money transfer whatsoever. What the user will see next time is just a set of ********2341 – just to recognize and to know that their card account is ready to be reused.
